Developing my business logo.

During the second year of my degree, I undertook a website design module.

The subject of this website was my motor sports photography and in particular, my motorbike racing images.

Here is the link to my blog from this module.

As part of this module, I developed my own business logo as seen below in figures 1 and 2.

I initially developed the logo in figure 2 but I used the design in figure 1 as the logo for the splash-page of my completed website and also for the logo on my business cards.

Figure 3.

I have used the logo in Figure 1 as my personal identity since the website design module and wanted to try something new.

I inverted the colours of my logo in photoshop as can be seen in Figure 3.

I do like the black on white and think that it has a very clean, simple and professional feel to it.

I decided though that I would try a come up with a few simple new designs in Adobe Illustrator and see if there was any way to improve on my current logo.

Figure 4.

Figure 4 is part of my initial design process.

After looking through a huge range of fonts, I found a font called Letter Gothic Standard (at the top of the page) which I really liked. It stands out from all of the similar Helvetica-type fonts that so many people currently use.

Letter gothic is still however neat, professional and contemporary in it's appearance. I thought that this would be the perfect font for my new logo.

I considered the use of blocks of colour like the RM in blue (Figure-4) but was unsure so opted to stay with the classic black and white.

Figure 5.

Figure 5 is based on the RMP part of my previous logo but I thought that this looked a little too basic and somewhat unbalanced so I opted not to use this.

Figure 6.

In figure-6, I tried some simple graphical shaped to enclose my text but again, I was unsure about this idea and thought that a much more simple and un-cluttered approach would be best.

Figure 7 shows my final design. It is really clean, simple and professional in appearance which is the type of impression that I am trying to create with potential future clients.

I opted to use a mid-grey instead of black as I found that this seemed to suit the text better than a full-black.

I experimented with several coloured backgrounds as seen in figure 8 but did not like this and reverted to the more minimal and simplistic grey and white.
