A Physical Portfolio of Work ?

In addition to having my own online presence, I also intend to develop my own physical portfolio.

This is something that I really wanted to incorporate into this module but unfortunately, I cannot afford to purchase a professional portfolio at the moment as I still have to pay off some of my tuition fees and this is going to leave me exceptionally short on money.

This is incredibly frustrating !

I have looked at several companies who produce professional portfolios and when I do purchase one, I want it to be of the highest quality.

I have been told about a great company in London called Silverprint.

The stock a  great range of professional portfolios which are matched by equally professional prices !

Figure 1 show the prices for an A3 portfolio bound in leather.

This is the style of portfolio that I want to get as soon as possible.

Even though I cannot afford to purchase a portfolio straight away, through the process of selecting my images for my new website, I now have a really good edit of images for my portfolio already.

i intend to take advantage of the access that I have at university to  professional printer and have the images for my portfolio printed before I leave University and then as soon as i can purchase my portfolio, i will have the images ready and the portfolio will be ready to go.

Another type of physical portfolio that I definitely want is my own series of Blurb books.

I undertook a module to produce a book at the end of my first year at Uni and I have always had incredible comments about my book whenever people have seen it.

My book-design skills have improved greatly since my first-year and i am currently producing a book about macro-insect photography for my final major project and I will be incorporating this into my future portfolio.

Producing books is an area of photography that I really want to pursue in the future.

From the research with potential customers that I have conducted already, having images put into a book is very desirable compared to just having digital copies.

Len Grant, a photographer from Manchester produces a lot of book and he has been very successful doing this.

I have worked with Len on several occasions now and intend to make contact with him again in the immediate future to get some advice from him on this.

Image Selection.

Although I cannot afford to purchase a portfolio straight away, I can however edit my images ready for when I do purchase my new portfolio.

As i have just built a website of my best motorsport images for this module, I already have quite a tight edit of my best images.

I intend to refine this down to a maximum of 12 images that I will have printed in A3.

I plan to show my 6 best car images and my 6 best bike images.

I have previously had a lot of work printed on the large format printer on heavyweight matte paper. The finish and image quality have always been exceptional. I intend to have these portfolio images printed onto the same media.
